NTC was founded in September 1996 with a vision to provide an effective regulatory framework and adequate safeguards needed  to ensure fair competition and protection able to  fulfill the consumer interests.  NTC , as governmental body , is committed to  perform its functions independently  and  effectively as a  regulator body with   a comprehensive authority  .

The headquarters of NTC is in  Khartoum State, and  it  has the right to establish branches   in  different  States of  the Sudan .

NTC  is acting  under communication  Minister’s direct  supervision in executing  its duties , fulfilling  its functions and exercising its powers in accordance with the principal directions issued by the minister  which aim  to  develop the media ,information , and wired and wireless  telecommunication systems .

The Competent Minister shall determine the  directions and guidelines of NTC’s  general policy according to the  State’s policies and plans.

Currently ,NTC is  revising the   Telecom Act 2001, amending it in order to be more inclusive , keeping it to be  up to date with  the technical steady development in the field of telecommunications and information technology , and its blending techniques  applications and services.
